Right, so it is wedding season and you have RSVP’d but you are stuck on what to wear. You have no idea if the wedding has a theme. It could be rustic, vintage, black tie, classic or even rock, you are stressing out. The pressure is on because you know you are going to see hundreds of people and let’s be honest, everyone likes to look good for a wedding. – I know I absolutely love getting ready for a wedding.

The Theme

This is the most important aspect for me and is a big hint when deciding what to wear. When I know a couple is getting married, I always ask “What’s your wedding theme going to be?”. – Sometimes some couples don’t specifically have a theme and they just want you to come as you are and that can get a tad tricky.

If a theme has not been specified, all is not lost. I would suggest a little research on the information you have to hand, such as the location. So for instance, if it is a destination wedding. I would research the location, customs and weather, which will then enable me to pick the right fabric, at the very least. A wedding held in a rustic manor in the country as opposed to the city would also give me some clues. I always feel like the choice I make with my outfit is a way to honour the bride and groom and getting it right is an important contribution to the celebrations. I want to be noticed for all the right reasons. There is nothing more romantic than the possibility of meeting your Mr Right at a wedding, after all.

Budget

Being a wedding guest, doesn’t necessary  mean lavish spending! – Inevitably, us women always find some way to spend money. Whether it be our hair, manicure, pedicure etc… we always find something to spend on. I try and mix and match. Recycle what you have. So if I have already worn a dress a couple of years ago to a wedding, I will switch it up with completely different shoes, accessories and hairstyle, which can give the outfit a whole fresh look and feel. It makes a big difference.

I love Pinterest for mood boarding. You can be your own stylist. Pinterest enables you to have an idea of the look you are planning. Mood boarding is such a great idea. If for instance, the couple have decided they want their guests to come in a theme that is not your usual style, you can use Pinterest to get some inspiration. Try it, it’s amazing!

Shoes

Hair is a major factor for me. When I know I am on a tight budget, I find ways to do my hair myself. You can never go wrong with a slicked-back ponytail. Super easy and appropriate for a wedding. Because I am addicted to changing my hairstyle and sometimes run out of ideas, Instagram and Pinterest become my best friends. I always try to find something unique that will compliment my outfit.

As crazy as it sounds, I can’t walk in heels. It is ridiculous, I know! I have no idea how I will do it on my wedding day. Nevertheless, this doesn’t stop me from purchasing them! I have been invited to so many weddings where I am seated so far away from the dance floor and although walking there may  be less than a minute, uncomfortable shoes can make it feel more like thirty minutes.

It is so important for me to always make sure that I have comfortable shoes to hand. I have been known to whip out sandals, albeit, they have to be nice sandals that go with my outfit.

Appropriate

My favourite! It is important to know the difference between a wedding and a club. Weddings to me are sacred, it’s a moment where two people are coming together and making the biggest decision they will probably ever make in their life. It is so important for me to look at my outfit and make sure that it is tasteful and appropriate for the occasion. Sexy can still be tasteful and should always be classy. In the words of Edith Head “Your dresses should be tight enough to show you’re a woman and loose enough to show you’re a lady.”
